Laramie County Tobacco Prevention is committed to providing a program designed to focus on tobacco education, to
help prevent youth initiation, and to promote the low-cost cessation services offered to Laramie County citizens.

Did you know that in 2008 in Laramie County:
- 15% of high school students reported smoking in the last 30 days
- 7% of high school students reported using smokeless tobacco in the last 30 days
- 17% of youth said they would be seen as cool if they smoked
- 13% of youth said they would be seen as cool if they used smokeless/spit tobacco
- 12 years old is the median age when youth begin smoking
- 14 years old is the median age when youth begin chewing
Did you know that in Wyoming:
- 22.5% of high school students (6,700 kids) smoke
- 22.2% of male high school students use smokeless/spit tobacco
- 6% of female high school students use smokeless/spit tobacco
- 800 kids under 18 become new daily smokers each year
- 33,000 kids are exposed to secondhand smoke at home
- 700 Adults die each year from their own smoking
- 12,000 kids now under 18 and alive will ultimately die prematurely from smoking
- Somewhere between 40-130 adults die each year from exposure to second hand smoke
- Annual health care costs in Wyoming caused directly from smoking are $136 million
- And $37 million is covered through Medicaid
- The local resident's tax burden from smoking-caused government expenditures is $581 each household.
- The tobacco industry spends a total of $27.4 million each year on advertising
- Children are twice as susceptible to tobacco advertisements as adults.
